"We bought our log cabin four years ago. It was a total wreck from years of neglect - carpenter ants/bees, water damage/staining from leaking roof and skylights, etc. But it was six beautiful acres with a private lake one hour from the city... Before we made the decision to tear the house down and start over, we met Ian and his team.

They literally "camped out" in the house for six weeks and totally stripped/stained and resealed the entire house! Four bedrooms, two full baths, great room, kitchen, hallways and the entire outside- including a wrap around deck- was refurbished and protected. And Ian has stayed in touch every year. He just checked on us and this past summer re-sealed the home’s exterior.

The house is our weekend refuge from our insanely, busy workweek. We are there almost every Friday night. The stress just melts away as we pull onto our road and see the perfect house up on the hill overlooking our lake. It's great to know we have someone like Ian if we have any issues. He's always reachable and does a great job!"

Log Repair

Some damaged logs can be repaired by inject epoxy products that reconstitute rotted wood fibers, especially if the damage is close to the surface and not structurally significant. Rotted log ends can sometimes be repaired by using epoxy fillers and impel rods. When a rotting is bad enough even these steps are not sufficient to repair a log, the best solution is partial or full log replacement.

Partial Log Replacement

Partial log replacement involves removing decayed wood until solid wood is revealed. Then a borate-based log preservative is applied to kill invading rot. Next, a liquid epoxy is injected until all holes are filled and the entire area is brushed with liquid epoxy. The log must be allowed to air and cure before wood is cut, placed and set in the void to replace the part that was removed.

Full Log Replacement

Full log replacement is far more complex than partial log replacement and is normally only done by experienced log home repair experts. The type of wood, size and shape of the log must be matched to insure the best look and fit. Full log replacement can impact the structural integrity of the entire home, so expert planning and careful use of the right tools is essential.
